During World War II, it was home to the Marinship shipyard, where Liberty ships were built. By the late 1960s, the waterfront became known for its vibrant houseboat communities.
   
   Enjoy its relaxed vibe, explore local art galleries, or savor fresh seafood at one of its many restaurants. Want more time here? You can take the ferry back to San Francisco.
