   Leave Bangkok behind and travel toward Ayutthaya, the former royal capital of Siam. Along the way, your private guide will introduce the city’s history and explain how its location, waterways and international trade helped it grow into one of Asia’s most important kingdoms.

   Enter the UNESCO-listed historical area, where temple towers, royal monuments and weathered brick ruins remain across the old island.
   
   As you travel between the main sites, your guide will help connect the individual temples into the larger story of Ayutthaya’s prosperity, royal power and eventual fall.

   Explore one of Ayutthaya’s most recognizable temples and see the famous Buddha head held naturally within the roots of a growing tree.
   
   Walk among the monastery ruins, weathered Buddha images and remains of the central tower while learning why Wat Mahathat once served as an important religious centre of the kingdom. There will be time for photographs and questions without the rushed pace of a large group.

   Visit the former royal temple within the grounds of Ayutthaya’s old palace.
   
   Its three elegant chedis, built to enshrine the ashes of Ayutthaya kings, remain among the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Walk through the spacious ruins while your guide explains royal ceremonies, palace life and the importance of the temple to the Ayutthaya court.

   Pass beside this active Buddhist sanctuary, located next to Wat Phra Si Sanphet and home to one of Thailand’s largest seated bronze Buddha images.
