概要
アクララは1940年代にスリランカで石灰石の主要な産地であった。 石灰石の採掘は何十年もの間村人の主要な職業であり、それらの窪みは何十年も放置され、マングローブに覆われた貯水池となっている。 ここは希少種の鳥類、ミズオオトカゲ、コウモリなど、膨大な範囲の野生生物の生息地となっている。
