モウ・ワホ島は捕食者保護局の自然保護区であり、山頂には天然の氷河湖が形成されている。 ここでは、希少な飛べないバッフ・ウェカ（1920年以降本土では絶滅）やマウンテンストーン・ウェタ、その他多くの在来鳥類を含む保護活動の成果を直接見ることができます。
