Edificada após a reconquista da cidade aos mouros, em 1147, foi construída sobre uma antiga mesquita muçulmana, tendo adoptado um esquema idêntico ao da Sé de Coimbra, com 3 naves, trifório sobre as naves laterais, transepto saliente e cabeceira tripartida.
